Democracy Needs Your Courage
Where do we go after No Kings 3.0?
Where do we go after No Kings 3.0?
Thanks to all who showed up on Saturday and those who wished they could have. In these times, building coalition across a broad base is essential. We owe gratitude to the organizers, Democracy Out Loud! Bull City Indivisible, USSW, other unions, League of Women Voters, Stand up for Racial Justice (SURJ), Durham Democrats, and the Party for Socialism and Liberation. This is the broad coalition we must create to save our democracy from authoritarian takeover.
My favorite sign:
I wish I had gotten the woman’s name who made it so I could give her credit. It’s beautiful, and just what I needed.
Democracy needs your courage…and our rage. That’s where we go from here. We have elections coming up in NC. And a good chance to flip some seats in the NCGA and of course, the US Senate. We MUST re-elect NC Supreme Court Justice Anita Earls.
There will be elections. The elections will be meaningful and they can be won. It will be an uphill battle. But, we can win elections in these conditions by building a movement and…a coalition.

CALLS:
Senate:
Ted Budd: D.C. 202-224-3154
Thom Tillis: D.C. (202) 224-6342
or use 5calls.org If you are shy about talking, call after hours and leave a message.
Scripts:
SAVE ACT
This is (name) from (address). The SAVE act would disenfranchise millions of voters and I want the Senator to vote against it. (if Tillis, “I hope the Senator is still a ‘no”) Also, I want the DOJ to release the remaining Epstein files to hold those who hurt children accountable.
IRAN
This is (name) from (address). I oppose this war in Iran. The Senator must refuse to pass any supplemental funding for this unauthorized war and speak out against it. Gas prices and grocery prices will continue to rise dramatically as the Strait of Hormuz remains closed. Life is already unaffordable for too many Americans.. The Senator must call for deescalation in Iran, not a forever ground war. Also, I want the DOJ to release the remaining Epstein files to hold those who hurt children accountable.
DILLEY Concentration camp.
This is (name) from (address). I would like the Senator to call for the immediate release of all children and their families from the Dilley Detention Center in Texas. It is not a safe place for any children, and the American Academy of Pediatrics has said there should be no children, at all, in prison camps.
If the Senator cares about children and their families, he should speak out immediately. Also, I want the DOJ to release the remaining Epstein files to hold those who hurt children accountable.
Finally…Out of the mouths of babes, NC edition:
I was at an event for Roy Cooper with my daughter and granddaughter the other day; we had a chance to meet him. Governor Cooper graciously leaned down to my granddaughter, asked her name, then said, “I’m running this race for you!”
She responded in all seriousness and quite emphatically, “ARE YOU GOING TO HELP ANITA EARLS?”
We all laughed, including Governor Cooper, who then said, “We’re going to help each other.”
That’s the spirit!
Let’s make sure everyone knows as much about the importance of our NC judicial races this year as this five year old. (She listens carefully.)

Thank you for creating a platform that is so informative. I appreciate the detailed information on actions to take.
Today is also a good day to call Senators Budd and Tillis. Did you all see DJTrump's TS post today? Where is Congress???? Oh yes. On recess.
